Social Media Engagement – Expert opinion on how to build a sustainable strategy.

One of the most vital things my customers & I discuss first is how to resource their strategy.

Dr Michael Wu’s (Chief Data Scientist with Lithium, international experts in Social Media) talk on scalability & sustainability is the subject of an excellent exploration of this topic.

His points on engagement over social media are well made and illustrated in this classic quote.

Wu explained that while engagement isn’t hard – “anybody can engage… use cute cat videos” – the prerequisite for sustained engagement over a long time is a relationship.

The article goes on to detail his 4 point plan on how to accomplish this by attending to:

  1. Time
  2. Intensity
  3. Trust
  4. Reciprocity

The article discusses each point in some detail giving Dr Wu’s expert insight.

It’s an excellent read and naturally raises points that help us to examine our own strategies.
